OHS Parents needed for WASC Focus Groups

-OHS Parents-

This 2018-19 school year Oceanside High School will be going through ACS WASC Accreditation. ACS WASC stands for the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. WASC collaborates with the California Department of Education (CDE) in order to align the accreditation process with the planning process for California public schools as required by state and federal statutes. This collaborative process helps schools identify and implement school improvement needs and supports accountability.

Accreditation is integral to a school’s perpetual cycle of assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reassessment based upon student achievement. It fosters excellence in education by encouraging school improvement through a process of continuing evaluation and to recognize, by accreditation, schools that meet an acceptable level of quality in accordance with established criteria. In addition to its official title, WASC also means We Are Student Centered.

In order to make this process successful, we need to hear the voices of all stakeholders. This means we need YOU!! It is vital for OHS to get input and feedback from parents to ensure we are providing educational opportunities that foster the success for all students. OHS teachers, support staff, students and parents provide this input during meetings called Focus Group meetings and we would love to have you as a part of one of our five Focus Groups!

We will hold four (4) Focus Group meetings this year:

If you are interested, please fill out the bottom portion of the form and have your child return it to the main office at your earliest convenience.

You can also contact Dr. Kevin Thompkins, OHS WASC Coordinator at 760-901-8384 if you have additional questions.
